SPEAKER BIO

Serah Calitz

Serah Calitz is an educator and researcher with an interest in the cross- and transcultural frictions, collaborations, and negotiations that produce and circulate architectural knowledge.

She completed her professional degree in Architecture at Delft University of Technology in 2018 with distinction.

Her master’s thesis, ‘Sino- African Counterpoints’ (EFL Stichting Research Grant, TU Delft Global Support) was awarded an honourable mention in the 2019 Dutch Archiprix. Serah has worked in professional practice as an online editor for MVRDV and in research and business development, for OMA with a focus on the Middle East and Africa. Since 2019 she has taught in the International Spatial Development Programme at the Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) where she is responsible for the Design Studio Living in Cities and various theory modules. In parallel to her teaching at BUas, Serah has coordinated communications for the African Perspectives +12 conference (TU Delft) and has been a guest critic for Project Tanzania, Department of Architecture, University of Cambridge. Current projects include Encounters an investigation into postcolonial exchanges between Dutch architects and their African contemporaries and a lecture series Tall Money: Architecture as a Tool of Capital commencing at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture in October 2021.
