Dr Anja Hallacker has been the director of the DAAD Information Centre Johannesburg and a lecturer in the German Department of the University of the Witwatersrand since November 2017. She has worked in higher education systems all her life and takes pleasure and pride in supporting students and researchers.
In June 2021, Dr Hallacker was elected to the Board of the German International School Johannesburg and currently heads the Personnel Committee. In February 2022, she accepted an appointment to the advisory board of the newly founded Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) South Africa.
From 2009 until 2014 she was the director of the DAAD Information Centre Pune in India and from 2014 – 2017 she served as managing director of the world-renowned Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin.
She enjoys engaging with scholarship holders, students, researchers and DAAD South Africa partners and to promote internationalisation in the South African higher education system as well as at home.
In December 2023, Dr Hallacker will return to Germany, as her secondment to South Africa will unfortunately come to an end.
