SPEAKER BIO

Angela James

Professor Angela James graduated from the University of Pretoria with a PhD in Curriculum and Instructional Design and Development. She has over 30 years teaching and community engagement experiences and over 20 years research in the schooling, tertiary and Adult Education sectors.

She currently works as the Academic Leader: Community Engagement and Associate Professor- Science Education in the School of Education, University of KwaZulu-Natal. Work focuses on Research and Service-Learning for undergraduate students, Inquiry-based teaching and learning in the Foundation Phase and other phases, Science curriculum related areas (theory and practice), Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Professional development of teachers – construction and use of Phronesis, Environmental Education, and Science – race and ethnicity. Nationally and internationally, I have developed various programmes for Higher Education Institutions, taught, engaged in research and community engagement initiatives, plenary presenter at conferences, published articles and edited journals, editor for journals, reviewer of NRF rating and project applications, international policy and research institutions, research articles, post-graduate reports and examination papers, completed Erasmus teaching mobilities and participated many other conferences, seminars and workshops.
